Hello,

I have made a second request for the DNS subdomain for the Helpdesk, =
this time through the webpage. The first one did no go through due to an =
error in the request webpage. Below is the first request made on =
10/20/2003 that I sent in order to get the request out by bypassing the =
broken webpage.=20
Wael also made a second request through email on 10/30/2003. Can this =
request be expedited as soon as possible ? Casenumber is 459057.
We want to get things started at the Helpdesk.

Thank you,

Hello,

I tried sending a request through the regular webpage at: =
http://mit.edu/windows/server/request/independentDNS/index.html but it =
did not go through, a got an error "page cannot be displayed, etc. when =
submitting. I have cut and pasted the information below to make the =
request this way :

Customer Contact Information for the DNS subdomain request

This information should be submitted by one of the people in your =
department, lab, center, or office who are primarily responsible for the =
current Windows Server environment, who will oversee the deployment of =
the independent Windows 2000 domain, and potentially intend to become =
responsible for it in the future. In the next section, you will be able =
to designate operational contacts for the DNS subdomain and associated =
Windows 2000 Server environment.
     =20
DLC or office for which request is being made (*)
      (Please specify the official name.)
        =20
MIT username of the requester (*)
       @mit.edu =20
Full name of the requester (*)
       =20
Phone number of the requester (*)
(Please specify area code if not an MIT exchange.)
      =20
     =20
Alternate e-mail address for the requester
(Please specify if your username@mit.edu as given above is not =
your preferred e-mail address.)
      =20
     =20
E-mail addresses of additional contacts you wish to provide at this =
point
(Please specify one e-mail address per line. These are contacts =
for the request only. You will be provided with a chance to specify =
operational contact information for the requested DNS subdomain and =
associated Windows 2000 domain in the next section.)
      legand@mit.edu bbrids@mit.edu, goguen@mit.edu, jromond@mit.edu=20

Operational Contacts for the Requested DNS Subdomain

The accuracy of the contact information specified below is very =
important. This contact information will be used by IS teams such as the =
Network Security or Network Operations Teams in cases of known =
emergencies, outages, or security problems that may be emanating from or =
affecting the customer DLC or office. Therefore, it is critical that you =
account for redundancy and ensure the right individuals on your end are =
represented.

We suggest that DLCs or offices establish and maintain a central =
mailing list and specify it as the contact e-mail to ensure all relevant =
parties are notified. Instructions for creating and maintaining mailing =
lists at MIT are available on-line. We additionally require two =
individiuals' names and contact information as a precaution, especially =
in cases when e-mail communication is not possible.
     =20
Mailing list of contacts for the DLC or office requesting the DNS =
subdomain
(please specify the full e-mail address)
        =20
Full name of the primary contact (*)
        =20
E-mail address for the primary contact (*)
        =20
Phone number of the primary contact (*)
(please specify area code if not an MIT exchange)
      =20
     =20
Full name of the secondary contact (*)
        =20
E-mail address for the secondary contact (*)
        =20
Phone number of the secondary contact (*)
(please specify area code if not an MIT exchange)
       =20

Requested DNS subdomains will reside under the .ms.mit.edu level. =
Since each DNS subdomain at this level needs a unique name, you are =
being asked to provide a preferred name and two alternatives in case the =
original is already in use. It is strongly suggested that DLCs and =
offices opt for descriptive and short (typically 10 characters or less) =
DNS subdomain names in order to minimize confusion and technical issues. =
For example, cis (for the fictitious Central Information Services =
Department) or records (for the fictitious Office of Important Records), =
making the fully qualified domains cis.ms.mit.edu and records.ms.mit.edu =
are good choices, whereas centralinformationservicesdept for the former =
fictitious department is a bad one.

DNS Subdomain Name and DNS Server Information

You are also required to provide two IP addresses, corresponding =
to those of the DNS servers which will be responsible for the delegated =
DNS subdomain. If you are following the recommendations in the Primer =
for Independent Windows 2000 Domains on MITnet, these are probably also =
the domain controllers for your Windows 2000 domain (but not =
necessarily). We require two DNS servers to ensure redundancy.
     =20
Preferred name for the DNS subdomain (*)
(Alphanumeric characters (a-z, 0-9) and dashes (-) only, please.)
       .ms.mit.edu  =20
First alternate name for the DNS subdomain (*)
(Alphanumeric characters (a-z, 0-9) and dashes (-) only, please.)
       .ms.mit.edu  =20
Second alternate name for the DNS subdomain (*)
(Alphanumeric characters (a-z, 0-9) and dashes (-) only, please.)
       .ms.mit.edu  =20
IP address of the first DNS server for this DNS subdomain (*)
(Please verify this information is correctly entered.)
      18. . . =20
     =20
IP address of the second DNS server for this DNS subdomain (*)
(Please verify this information is correctly entered.)
      18. . . =20
    =20

Let me know if I need to provide any other information,
