ITLT,

Below is a message we will be sending to IS' Team Leaders on Friday, May 5th
announcing the availability of an online read-only version of the Operational
Plan.

Please send your comments to me by May 3rd, so that we can get this announcement
out.

Once you are comfortable with the database, we need each of you to urge the team
leaders in your sphere of influence to look at the database carefully, and to
send in comments. The comments will be centrally collected by the project team,
and then parceled out as needed. Comments specific to a particular theme will be
sent to the ITLT members who owns the theme, namely:

	Theme 1 -> Bill
	Theme 2 -> Greg
	Theme 3 -> Bill and Roger
	Theme 4 -> Allison

...who will instruct the team as to what changes to apply to the database.

General comments that cannot be handled by the team will be sent to the project
sponsors, Bill and Bob.

Thanks for your help in getting this data ready for this Summer's migration.

Tim

Subject: Operational Plan database available on the Web

This summer, we will be bringing online a new system which contains descriptions
of all of the significant work performed in Information Systems.

     ----projects---(1)-------+
                              |
     ----activities---(2)-----|------> Plan Alive
                              | (web, oracle dbms, java servlets)
     ----initiatives---(3)----+

It will contain (and combine) three significant threads of information:

    (1) the project information that is currently being maintained in the
	   Projects DB;

    (2) activity information from standing and process teams (we do
        yet have a process to collect this information); and

    (3) initiative information that was collected in the Operational Plan
	   component of the IS Strategic Plan drafted during Fall, 1999
        with updates on Theme 2 from more recently.

We need to bring the initiative information (3) up to date so that it can be
easily migrated into the new database. We have created a web-accessible,
read-only Filemaker database of the information collected last Fall. To look at
the database, go to

	http://iswork.mit.edu/iswork.html.

Our intent is to keep this available for the next couple of months to allow
ITLT, team leaders and other staff for review and comment, and then move the
data to the new system.

We have provided a mechanism for sending comments, questions and suggestions on
each page. The ITLT members who are responsible for each of the Strategic Plan
themes will receive the feedback, and will decide how the feedback should be
incorporated into the database.

We are hoping that everyone in IS takes a look at the database. ITLT and team
leaders need to take a particular interest at the information that relates to
their each area of influence, and to work together, and in their teams, to
clarify and complete the information that is contained here.

If you have any questions about this information, please send your questions to iswork@mit.edu.

Thanks,
Tim McGovern
