Bill / Bob,

Below is the proposed message to ITLT announcing the Filemaker database.
We still need to apply a few tweaks to the database based on our
conversation on Tuesday, so I think we're looking at posting this to ITLT
Monday, 4/24. Is it too much to ask of ITLT to forward this message to
their team leaders as a way of getting the word out to all who need to
know? Is the data of 5/1 for ITLT to get this out to team leaders too
aggressive?

>This summer, we will be bringing online a new system which contains
>descriptions of all of the significant work performed in Information
>Systems.

> ----projects---(1)-------+
> |
>     ----activities---(2)-----|------> Plan Alive
> | (web, oracle dbms, java servlets)
> ----initiatives---(3)----+
>
>It will contain (and combine) three significant threads of information:
>
> (1) the project information that is currently being maintained in the
>	Projects DB;
>
> (2) activity information from standing and process teams that is not yet
>	maintained anywhere in a centralized fashion; and
>
> (3) initiative information that was collected in the Operational Plan
>	component of the IS Strategic Plan drafted during Fall, 1999.
>
>We need to bring the initiative information (3) up to date so that it can
>be easily migrated into the new database. We have created a
>web-accessible, read-only Filemaker database of the information collected
>last Fall. To look at the database, go to
>http://iswork.mit.edu/iswork.html. Our intent is to keep this available
>for the next couple of months to allow ITLT, team leaders and other staff
>for review and comment, and then move the data to the new system.
>
>We have provided a mechanism for sending comments, questions and
>suggestions on each page. The ITLT members who are responsible for each
>of the Strategic Plan themes will receive the feedback, and will decide
>how the feedback should be incorporated into the database.
>
>We are hoping that everyone in IS takes a look at the database. ITLT
>members need to encourage team leaders in their areas of influence to take
>a particular interest in the information, and to help their teams to
>clarify and complete the information that is contained here.
>
>Once you are comfortable with the database, please forward this message to
>the team leaders in your sphere of influence, including any context that
>you feel would be helpful to them. I'd like to get this to team leaders
>no later than May 1.
>
>If you have any questions about what we are proposing, please send your
>questions to iswork@mit.edu.
>
>Thanks,
>Tim McGovern
