This mail came into the IS Work comment channel. I suspect it's more
relevant for you all to handle.

Thanks,
Tim

Subject: Matlab site license
Message detail: Boston University has negotiated
a site license with the Mathworks for
Matlab. The site license allows installation
of Matlab on any University-owned
computer.
Licenses operate on the local computer,
and do not depend on unreliable
licenses server as at MIT. Current
server-based licensing methods in
place at MIT produce down-time that is
a huge waste for IT staff and
researchers alike. It would be highly
productive for MIT to negotiate a Matlab
site license of its own.
