Hi Bob,
Over a year ago, I created a draft of the Strategic Plan in HTML per Dani's
request. It is located in it's (still temporary) location:
http://web.mit.edu/is/teams/itlt/dontindex/strategic/
If this is something that can be updated with current information and used
as the HTML model, please let me know and perhaps Dani and I can get
together to go over what needs updating.

If an entirely new set of pages needs to be created, I can help with that
as well.
Kris

Hello,

I'd like to propose we target Oct 25 for the "official" debut of the
ISwork database. Overall we are in pretty good shape, but here the
items that still must occur on or before that date:

1. Relinking of pointers to "old" Project Database - Kris and Tim can
do this at any time before Oct 26.

2. Adding a link from the "about IS" section - Kris and Tim can do this
at any time before Oct 26.

3. Final tuning up of content - each of theme owners (Nate, Greg/Bob,
Roger/Susan , Allison) can do this. I'm happy to report that Kevin
Cunningham has a working version of the "hierarchy report" so you can
see how Themes, Strategies, Initiatives, and Projects/Activities nest
together. This report is a great tool for checking the consistency of
the content. It can viewed or printed by going to the "About" page,
"reports" section off the main page on
<<http://web.mit.edu/is/work/%A0>http://web.mit.edu/is/work/

4. Publish an HTML version of the Strategic Plan in the "plans section"
of
<<http://web.mit.edu/is/org/index.html>http://web.mit.edu/is/org/index.html
I'm hoping Kris can do this with Dani's guidance. The .PDF only version
is a sore point with some staff.

5. Jim Bruce will need to send an e-mail to infosys announcing the
availability of the new database. Below, I'm appending my first draft
and hoping Jim has enough time to review it and edit to his
satisfaction. I'd be happy to for any suggestions you might have and
I'll put together an even better draft before Jim gets back.

Cheers, Bob

I hope you will all really like this new database. It's really easy to
work with. If you want a hand getting started, please ask Tim, Kris, or
me and we'll be happy to help.

INFOSYS e-mail---------------------------------

Hello,

Last month, I mentioned that the Information Systems Strategic Plan is
now available online on the web. Today, I am pleased to add that we
also have a web-accessible database. The database is located at
<<http://web.mit.edu/is/work><underline><color><param>0000,0000,FFFF</param>http://web.mit.edu/is/work</color></underline><<http://web.mit.edu/is/work>
and it contains not only all the Strategic Plan components (Themes,
Strategies, and Inititiatives) but will also display the associated
elements of our Operational Plan (Projects and for process or standing
teams Activities).

This database is designed to contain abstracts of virtually all of our
current and planned work, and show this work in the context of the
larger Strategic Plan. It will not show the details of any given item,
which is more likely to be found in the Project or Team Notebook,
however it should contain pointers to those notebooks. Maintenance of
the notebooks remains the responsibility of the individual process or
project teams. Maintenance of the material in the database, however, is
the responsibility of the Directors. So, if you see something incorrect
or can suggest a change, please feel free to direct a comment to one of
them. It is in our collective interest that the database is current and
accurate.

As you would expect, this new database completely replaces the Project
Database, which is now retired. The contents of the Project Database
have been converted to the new database, and all references have, we
believe, been redirected accordingly. Initially, you will not find a
comparable list of Activities. However, a subteam is now at work on
transferring the information, developed in our recent budgeting work,
to the new database. We anticipate that this will be complete and the
data up to date by month end November.

Iíd like to thank all of you who worked create this. We now have a very
good description on what we are doing and what we plan to do. I also
appreciate everyoneís help in keeping this up to date as our ìsystem of
recordî for our contributions to the mission of MIT. It will be very
useful to us, to those who fund us, and to all our customers.
