How to migrate AFS database meta-data from 3.4a to 3.6 AFS servers

Hello,
It is our understanding that Transarc's 3.4a and 3.6 database servers
can not run in tandem on the same cell. Does this mean that the
database formats change between 3.4a and 3.6?
If so, can someone provide any information on how to migrate the data
from a 3.4a database server to a 3.6 database server?
If not, can someone explain why the two database servers can't run
together? Is there a change in how ubic works?
