I have several questions concerning the interaction between cache
managers and file servers. We have 4 AFS file servers, each contains
only Read-Only copies of executables. All four file servers reside
in their own subnets.
1. When accessing the Read-Only path of our cell, how does the
cache manager select which one of the four file servers to
connect to? Is this the task of the data base servers or is
it up to the cache manager?
2. Does the cache manager always try to connect to the Read-Only
copies from the file server nearest it (within the same subnet)?
3. Can one force the cache manager to always try to connect to the
Read-Only copies from the file server nearest it?
4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having all AFS
file servers physically located in one location (one room)?
Thank you for your comments.
