Hi,
We have a system that was upgraded from Windows 98(used the PCI software
to access the Protocol Translators which in turn accessed AFS) to
Windows 2000 with SP1 installed. The AFS Win 2K client was then
installed. The PCI software was removed. Booted the system. The AFS
service would not start. Removed and re-installed multiple times. Still
received the same errors when trying to start the AFS service.
I have pasted below the various messages that we have received.

When trying to start the service from ctrlpanel/admintools/services:
Could not Start the IBM AFS Client service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: the serve did not start or control request in a timely
fashion.

From the ctrlpanel/afs icon:
The afs client Service could not be started. you might not have the
authorization
to perform this operation.
Error 0x000003E5
===========================================================
Event Viewer error messages:
The IBM AFS Client service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely
fashion.
Followed by:
Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for the IBM AFS Client service to
connect.
