Thanks for the info. I must admit I'm out of my depth here. In this
particular case, I wrote down what "they" told me; I didn't have the
time to investigate for myself.
Interestingly enough, Phil Hirsch here at Transarc reported to me this
morning that he was able to write a --w--w--w- file on an RS/6000 but
not other system types. If this issue is of sufficient interest to
you, he might be able to shed some more light. His email is
