MIT rlogin not working from afs

There's got to be a simple answer to this problem. Yesterday, I made
/usr/athena be a symbolic link to afs and copied the /usr/athena branch (MIT
Kerberos stuff) from my local disk to afs. Now when I run the MIT versions
of rlogin, rcp, and rsh, they complain, for example,
% rlogin sws9
rlogin: Kerberos rcmd failed: Can't access ticket file (tf_util).
trying normal rlogin (/usr/ucb/rlogin.ucb)
But the ticket file is there!
% klist
Ticket file: /tmp/tkt.:0
Principal: jnm@CTD.ORNL.GOV

When I run the same commands off my local disk, they work fine.
Any ideas?
