My understand is that cops doesn't even attempt to do the right thing
w.r.t. network stuff. AFS is definitely network stuff.

Depends what you mean. As I recall, last I checked on AFS, things
like stat (or at least the is_writable type of stuff in cops) gave strange
results, but the rest of the checks in cops worked ok. Not knowing much
about AFS, nor anyone who does, I didn't bother to try and fix it. Any
volunteers to work with me to get it to work? I don't know of any
fundemental problems that cops has with AFS, but I'd be happy to
be enlightened.
