Another alternative is to get sources for these programs (sources for
"ls" and "compress" are available on ftp.uu.net in the "bsd-sources"
directory, and the source for GNU tar is available on
prep.ai.mit.edu), and link them with "-Bstatic".
The SunOS versions of these programs need access to /dev/zero because
they use the SunOS shared library facility. Linking with "-Bstatic"
avoids this problem.
