I believe the most correct solution is to never change the IP
addresses of your DB servers once you've advertised their existence.
That's the approach we take here.
Now that you've already changed things, I might suggest running a vldb
server with an empty database on a machine with the old DB server IP
addresses. Having a server that responds should seriously cut down on
the traffic which I suspect consists mostly of retries.
