There is absolutely no need for chances to the sendmail source. Sendmail
may be a dragon to configure but it is configurable and especially in the
are of delivering mail. Use as the local mailer as program that drops the
mail into the user home directory.
If some source could be changed it would be that of /bin/mail that is the
local mail delivery program in most cases. The program source is reasonable
trivial: look for the code that handles the -d (deliverymode) flag and make
some small chances there. If you change /bin/mail you problably don't need
to reconfigure sendmail.
