Hello,
I want to thank everyone who responded to my "provocative" mail on
changing the semantics of Unix mode bits. The response ended up being
what I thought it might be - everyone feels pretty strongly, but not
for the same point of view. In light of that, we decided to not make
such a drastic change in the system for AFS 3.1. The changes from MIT
are in our code base, so any site that has source can turn them on
when they build the system. But enough sites felt that this change
would be a catastrophe that we decided not to implement it.
