One tool that sounded quite useful was a version of tar that substituted symlinks during extraction. However, my memory is that only an AIX version existed. Does anyone have a version of, say, gnutar with this patch? How about other tools? One that was suggested here was a tool to rummage around a non-afs directory tree, substituting symlinks for hard links in place. You'd need to give it some sort of prioritization as to which names should be the real ones. Any other ideas? David
