I was wondering if anyone has a solution to (or has the same problem of) the
limited uid space offered by most unix platforms.
At the University of Michigan, we are planning to provide AFS file service
(IFS - Institutional File System) to all of our faculty, staff and students
via various platforms ( Unix, Mac, PCs) and the total population of
the University is greater than 60000.
As we all know, AFS protection server provides an uid space consisting
of 31 bits but most unix platforms provides only 15/16 bits which is
insufficient.
Is there a method whereby a user can use both the local file
system and AFS too ? Also, I would like to know what uid space
(how many bits) is offered by the different unix platform ?
Thanks.
