Well, it looks like I sparked some interest here.

 I was experimenting with AFS 3 between 2 RT's running AOS. As it stands
now, Peter is right, it sucks. I'm sure that some mods to RX need to be
done, but I'm not sure what/where.

I was planning on using Microcom 4296hs modems and Dickens Data 8 port
serial cards. The modems run at 12000, and I can run the serial line at
38400. Based upon experience at IBM TJ Watson using this setup as a home
terminal, I should be able to get data rates of 2-3K/second. Acceptable,
assuming that you have all the large binaries on the local disk. I'm
sure that I don't want to fetch runapp over this....

Peter was going to send me some info on the mods he's done so far; maybe
we can all work together on this.

Looks like the first mod I need to do is up the slip MTU.... from 296 to 576
