Folks...
There are several new goodies in grand.central.org's (GCO's) usr/contrib
tree, the gathering place for interesting programs and documents from
people in the AFS community at large. To see a brief description of the
list of programs currently available, please look at the following file:
/afs/grand.central.org/darpa/usr/contrib/Index
More detailed descriptions of each of these contributions appear in the
following directory:
/afs/grand.central.org/darpa/usr/contrib/doc
The new contributions come from National Institites of Health
(alw.nih.gov), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (rpi.edu), and from GCO
itself. Here are some highlights of the new items available and who
contributed them:
add.auth.acct (Zayas@GCO)
Add a new authentication-only AFS account
add.cell (Zayas@GCO)
Add a new cell mountpoint to /afs, do volume releases,
then perform the fs newcell operation.
auth_AFS1 (Todd@RPI)
AFS login for the RS/6000 running AIX 3.1
gcc (Mason@GCO)
GNU Project C compiler
rm.auth.acct (Zayas@GCO)
Remove a new authentication-only AFS account
update.gco.CellServDB (Zayas@GCO)
Installs a new central CellServDB for the GCO cell,
chiming off Transarc.com's exported version.
vollist (Persky@NIH)
Print out info about all mount points in a subtree.
As you might expect, auth_AFS1 has only been installed for systype
rs_aix31. I've compiled Ted Persky's vollist utility for the easiest
subset of machines for me to get my hands on (next_mach20, pmax_ul3,
rs_aix31, rt_aos4, sun3_35, sun4c_40, sun4c_411, vax_ul3). If people
need this to run on other machine types immediately, please let me know
and I'll whip them up pronto. Otherwise, I'll conjure them as I have
time. Please note that gcc has only been compiled for the pmax_ul3 so
far.
Courtesy of Tony Mason, the usr/contrib facility will (over time) see
the rest of the GNU programs installed. So, this can become your
one-stop AFS shopping place for this important free software. All of
the GNU sources provided here are, of course, visible to the general AFS
populace. You need to look in the following place:
/afs/grand.central.org/darpa/usr/contrib/.site/grand.central.org/gnu
As before, I invite people with programs, libraries, documents, etc. of
general interest to the AFS community to submit them to GCO's
usr/contrib so they can be made more easily visible to everyone. Please
send mail to erz@transarc.com and just let me know where I can pick up
your work.
Happy sharing!!
