An new version of the AFS volume balancer is avaliable now from
export.acs.cmu.edu:/pub/balance-1.0.tar.Z
This version has the following changes and bugfixes incorporated:
fix bug in double-chain insert to empty list if elt inserted has
dirty prev pointer. This only manifested itself under
very small cell conditions.
>>>>> recreate backup volumes on new sites
automatically exclude (VLDB) locked volumes
allow the switch-setable params to be done in config, overridable
on command line
a runtime of 0 now means unlimited runtime
runtime can now be specified in XhXmXsXd format (4h30m - four
hours, 30 minutes)
What is Balance?
Balance will balance a set of AFS servers and partitions by size and
number of volumes per partition simultaneously (and usage per week if
you have a source license - see docs), and is suitable for unattended,
automatic operation. Runtime parameters are tuneable: limited runtime,
number of simultaneous moves, number of total transactions, preview
mode and more. I strongly recommend this tool toward large sites who
need control over server utilization.
