Ah! Yes, we have been having that problem also. I have reported it to
Transarc some time ago but they have not yet gotten back to me about
it. I have found that if you watch the backup (not the butc) program
as it reports which volumes that is going to backup it will print
which backup volumes it was unable to access before the dump starts.
I then abort the backup, fix the volumes and restart the backup.
It is a royal pain but it works.
We are running AFS servers and clients on DS-3100s and mVax-IIs
running Ultrix 3.1.
