No, at this point compatibility is the only reason. We discussed
changing it at MIT, but decided it was too much effort since we have a
working system now.
There is support in the hesiod libraries for inter-realm hesiod, which
won't work with sites using a different class. But other than that,
there's nothing to stop a new site from switching back to IN.
