Yes, source is available for Moira, the Athena Service Management
System (we renamed it from SMS for a number of reasons). There's also
a mailing list moira@athena.mit.edu. See announcement below.

Subject: beta test version 2.0 available

At this point I'm making available version 2.0 of Moira for beta test.
For those who have asked for more information, there is an 83 page
technical description of the system available separately (and included
in the release).

It is not expected to run as is at other sites, since some knowledge
of services offered and policies is coded into the package. If you
are expecting to get something that will run out of the box and solve
all of your problems, please wait for a later release. This is
derived from code that has been in use for 1.5 years at Athena, but it
has never been compiled outside the Athena environment. It should,
however, run on any 4.3 BSD derived system (we run it on 4.3 Vaxen and
RTs).

You are expected to have Kerberos and RTI Ingres before attempting to
build and install Moira.

All of this is available via anonymous FTP from athena-dist.mit.edu
(internet address 18.71.0.38). In the directory pub/moira, you will
find five files:

moira.tar.Z.aa	512000	split compressed tar of sources & documentation
moira.tar.Z.ab	512000	split compressed tar of sources & documentation
moira.tar.Z.ac	226215	split compressed tar of sources & documentation
tech_plan.PS.Z	119155	postscript file of the technical description (83 pp)
usenix.PS.Z	48107	postscript file of the Winter 88 Usenix paper (11 pp)

To retrieve the complete distribution, get the three moira.tar.Z.a*
files, concatenate them together, uncompress the result, then untar
it. This complete distribution contains the other two documentation
files.

General discussion about this may be directed to the mailing list
moira@ATHENA.MIT.EDU. Bugs should be reported to
bug-moira@ATHENA.MIT.EDU. We make no guarentees that bugs will be
tracked in real-time, although we will provide what support we can.
