MIT Information Systems is now making available version 1.3 of the
Hesiod library. Functionally, there are almost no differences between
this version and the version previously available. There are several
bugfixes, and the code has been cleaned up to run with later versions
of BIND and to compile on more platforms. This is the version
currently in use here at MIT.
The hesiod distribution no longer contains a copy of BIND. This
because the last couple of versions of BIND have builtin support for
hesiod. You only need to compile the hesiod library and link it in
with your applications to be able to use hesiod. You should be useing
verion 4.8 or later of BIND.
This distribution has been tested on DECstation Ultrix 4.2A and Ultrix
4.3, Sun Sparcs running SunOs 4.1.2 and Solaris 2.1, IBM RS/6000
running AIX 3.2, and Vaxen running BSD 4.3. It should be easily
portable to any unix variant running BIND.
This code is available via anonymous FTP from athena-dist.mit.edu in
pub/hesiod.tar.Z. This is a compressed tar file containing the
library, a simple client "hesinfo", and some example configuration
files. While we cannot provide full support on this external to MIT,
please report bugs and enhancements to hesiod@mit.edu, and we will
help where we can. Note that Hesiod is a registered trademark of MIT.
