Yes, it is certainly possible to use different servers for addresses
and hesiod info. We do that here at MIT.
On each workstation, we run a named. We cheat and make each
workstation authoratative for a cache.mit.edu zone which contains the
bootstrap information for the IN root, the MIT IN servers, and the MIT
HS servers. By doing it this way, things still work to resolve local
names even when MIT is isolated from the internet.
I can post our boot files if anyone is interested.
