Hello,
Here are the notes from the snow-delayed Feb 19th Delivery Council: Present were wdc, klimon, rferrara, msnow, tomt, thg, mjv, and khiggins.
Updates:
* FSS/IS integration
- has been announced officially. Several initiatives have and will begin to move the organizations more in synch.
* budget update
- signals from Curry, Brown are not good -- "7%" scenario, or something close to it, seems likely. Letter expected next week.
* Windows planning update
- sponsor meetings will be happening every two weeks (Theresa, Bob, Greg, Tom T. and Kerem), starting 2/19
- Greg will be drafting a Windows "vision" document
* Departmental Application Development proposal
- Wayne Turner and Chris Sherrill are very interested and willing to co-sponsor
- planning to go ahead with smallish 5-person "discovery" team, starting with within 3 weeks or so and lasting about a month
- Bob Berson is interested in being the ISFT rep
* Insite Evaluation
- Insite, MIT's space management application, has been developed as part of a consortium.
- IS asked to help with an evaluation of the code
- Tom G. volunteered to help with the evaluation
Roundtable:
* Bill:
- Linux update almost ready for release (Redhat for non-Athena machines)
- Mozilla 1.2.1 has been released
* Tom T.
- hiring WYSE consultant to write MSIs -- about $40K available
- building 37 -- marked increase in non-class use
* Tom G.
- Todd Belton moving to 100% EAST as of March 1
- hoping to move him to N42 soon
* Kerem
- team needs clarification of direction/vision to move forward effectively
- struggling to get proofs-of-concept -- many little problems distracting from main focus of developing process
- may be getting help from Dell, MS in coming month
Agenda Items:
* Performance Appraisals (MCS):
- reviewed timeline - initial ratings to Bob by 3/14; PA conversations and documents completed by end of April
- PA ratings:
- looked at "Achieved" checklist -- general considerations for PRs in assigning ratings
- Delivery had a disproportionate share of "E"s last year
- we are not grading on a curve (i.e. shooting for a certain % of As or Es)--it's more important to focus on criteria or standards, but it's important that we try to achieve some consistency of evaluation across IS
- Discussion: How have you defined "E" in the past?
* professional evolution -- made substantial increase in productivity and impact
* benchmark against industry norms/expectations (to the extent these are known)
* increase in results in terms of difficulty or quantity
* impact beyond immediate environment
* providing results commensurate with expectations of next level
- Team Leadership Assessment Survey
- more info will be forthcoming in e-mail by early next week
- changes from last year:
- TL can elect to solicit written comments or not
- assessors can opt to deliver hardcopy directly to TL
* Next Monthly Delivery Newsletter
- Not much feedback. Suggestions appreciated for future ones (next is 3/6).
* Debrief of 2/12 Strategic Review
- format seemed to work well
- good to end on time
* 2PM 3/4 All-Delivery Meeting
- presenters will be Bob, Jim Bruce, Mark Cason-Snow, and Windows (Tom&Kerem)
- still looking for location
Next Meeting - 3/3, 2-3:30, N42-286
- prep for 3/4 All-Delivery Meeting
- budget
- OKI update
3/17, 2-3:30, W92-199
- cross-platform development
