[Flame about flames about police treatment of protesting environmentalist
people in some representative's office in Kalifornia]
I actually disagree with you on this. I consider the government to
be fully accountable to everyone, and thus forced to endure any kind of
protest such as this. Or whatever other form of protest you believe is
appropriate, given the government's level of responsiveness to citizens,
and whether you are protesting a violation of the constitution/basic rights.
(I've started to think about the logical outgrowths of this. Police officers
as such should not be allowed/required to carry weapons in the pursuit
of their duty purely by virtue of being police officers. However, they
should be free to carry privately-owned firearms for personal defense while
performing their duties. I'm not sure what duties they should really have,
though.)
I'm against the environmentalists on this issue, but I still believe in
their right to protest. Heh, worst case, they impair the functioning of
the US Government. If they do so, I will not shed a tear.
Of course, if someone breaks into my home or lab and does this, then that's
cool too. They've immobilized themselves in the KZ... "open fire with the
highest casualty producing weapon", or so say the US military field manuals.
ObCrypto: if I decide to use Goldwasser-Micali Probabilistic Encryption
(provable security for individual bits, etc. etc.), have I done anything
totally wrong? For TX of week-long session keys, as an alternative to
OTP.
ObObservation: it's disturbing how, in designing a fun new toy, you can
borrow from mythology, literature, etc.
ObGuns: .177 cal air is such fun when your backstop sucks and you get hit
with every single pellet. oh well, no shooting for me until Monday, stupid
holiday.
