This is something the new Firearm Act will prevent.

Yeah, right! And pigs can fly...

Thieves steal six ballistic missiles in Poland

WARSAW (Reuters) - Thieves broke
into an armaments factory in southern
Poland and made away with six ballistic
training missiles, police said Monday.

The missiles, measuring 5 feet in length
and weighing 44 pounds each, were
taken from the Mesko Metal Works in
Skarzysko-Kamienna, 86 miles south of
Warsaw, police spokesman Zbigniew Matwiej told
Reuters.

[Note by JFA: oh, only small stuff. They are not ballistic but
probably ground to air or air-to-air. While not enough to blast a
building à la Oklahoma city, it does punch a nice hole in some
embassy or parliement or royal mansion of your choice... Or add a
little electronics and aim at the nearest american or israeli 747-
400 to make a strong point... We're lucky our truckers and
teamsters didn't get any in the last few days... :-) ]

It was not immediately known whether the missiles were
armed with explosives.

[Note by JFA: who darn cares! Mix aluminium power, ammonium
nitrate (fertilizer),and water and you get a low sensitivity but
extremely powerfull explosive. Or concoct some more tried-and-true
receipies available in every university library. BTW, the receipe
was given on The Learning Channel (channel 29 on cable TV in
Montreal) in a documentary on the uses of explosives. All is now
required is a high power detonator, which your local Hells Angel's
chapter will provide for a nominal fee...]

Three of the missiles were found concealed in the factory's
grounds by police soon after the theft was discovered,
Matwiej said. Police have set up a special group to
investigate the incident.

The Mesko factory occupies 2,250-acre but is guarded
by only a few guards, PAP news agency reported.

"It is sad and scandalous that such dangerous weapons
are so poorly guarded," Matwiej added.

[Note by JFA: yeah, only, easy-to-use CNC machines and powerfull
design software, a group of jack of all trade can probably whip up
an operationnal missile within a few months that will have a high
probability of firing properly on the first shot. The new finite
element analysis software are amazing AND cheap! And all of that
done during lunch time at the workstation! ]

[note by JFA: A missile with only a few kilos of propellant does
not represent much accrued danger to the citizen over regular pipe
bombs, car bombs, trash can bombs, etc that are easily
manufacturable from hardware store components for their usefull
payload is quite small. OTOH, because of their self-propelled
capabilities, they represent a much accrued menace to people who
can afford to have guarded entrances with metal gates and security
systems, i.e. govt officials and corporate headquarters. My
conclusion is that this tidbit of news will be used to justify some
more controls on the honest citizens, to protect the shivering
pork-barellers... But there are only my conclusions and I strongly
advise you draw your own.]
