Rising sea levels are a favorite bogeyman of the global warming crowd. The
IPCC in its 1995 report claims that sea levels have already risen 10 to 25
centimetres this century alone. Is it true?
John Daly reports the discovery of a Victorian era ordnance survey benchmark
on the Isle of the Dead. It was placed at mean sea level with all the
considerable precision of 19th Century British science. It is the oldest
known such benchmark in all the world, and is positioned in possibly the
most ideal location for such an important reference point.
Read John's account! It's a scientific and historical detective story
fleshed out with maps and photographs, and spiced with official silence. In
a photo taken this past August, you can recognize the benchmark as a "broad
arrow" pointing down to touch a horizontal line--all quite literally carved
in stone!
Installment 2 of "Isle of the Dead: Zero Point of the Sea?" will appear this
coming Sunday!
Cheers, Mike
