How Many Remailers Have Been Hacked?

I have a question to which I've never seen an answer in all these
years,
but which really concerns me:
What assurances do we have that the various remailers (of all
varieties)
have not been compromised - fatally - by hacks?
I'm just a nobody with a home computer and a dial-up modem connect to
an
ISP, but since installing a firewall, I am astounded to see the number
and persistence of many different kinds of hack attempts on my machine
from literally all over the world. I suspect that this simple
firewall
program doesn't begin to seal all the security holes in my system, nor
catch any but the most low-grade, script-kiddie hacker.
With the hostile attentions of numerous anti-privacy governments with
well-funded and highly expert COMINT agencies, is there any hope that
_any_ of these remailers haven't been stripped of their seckeys,
passwords and anything else of intelligence value? While there may
be a
few operating on large systems with state-of-the-art security,
Reliable
remailers, particularly, seem to be made for completely insecure
home-computer systems. Other remailers do not even seem to exercise
the
most rudimentary efforts to be secure; Replay, as an example, has been
using the same 1000-bit key since the Eisenhower administration, I
think.
I am very discouraged about remailer security. If my fears are not
well
founded, will someone who really knows about these matters explain to
me
why my concerns are misplaced?
