Actually the biggest factor was Tim May using the cypherpunks list as
his own personal sandbox (catbox is more like it).  Remember all his
rants about "I'll post on whatever topic I find interesting"?  And now
that nobody posts on cryptography any more, he's all bent out of shape.
Sorry, you reap what you sow.

Interesting though that the big man's getting interested in crypto
anarchy again.  Wasn't arming ourselves for Y2K the cypherpunks cause
this year?  Or is Y2K finally getting boring?
