Because I don't want to have to do everything myself.
My life is better (or so it seems) if other humans
are more useful.
I prefer to pay them for some things (like driving
string beans from Utah) than to do them myself.
Also, the roads I drive are also better because they are
better funded.
Similarly, my life is better if everyone uses crypto.
Less fraud; better funded tools; less noticable the
more that use it; more personal sovereignty for all, which
makes my personal sovereignty easier.
Consider if only people *with something to say* (cf
grooming talk or media regurgitation) could speak.
Telephones for the clueful would be *much* more expensive.
And, since I don't have to listen to them most of
the time, I benefit from this larger market.
When I speak privately, but in public, I'm not stared at by mutes
amazed at my vocalizing.
Being literate used to be rare enough to get you a good job
as a scribe. But I prefer a literate populace, even if
mostly they read and write trash; my tools are better,
and the quality stuff rides on the pulp infrastructure.
