I've been getting a lot of flack for saying:

So let me rephrase it:
Though I'm sure a number of MUD/IRC users are fine, upstanding people
who love their mother, salute their county's flag, and help old ladies
cross the street, a really, really, really, really, really, really,
really amazingly large number of people using MUD and IRC-type services
are typing using one hand. I know one woman that does so almost 18
hours a day (on a good week), and another that does so about 8 hours a
day. When non-internet users ask me, "Will people ever live in virtual
reality?" I say, "Without the graphics, there are people that live
their now." I've had rooms mates that that prove this point. I've had
people interview for jobs that prove this point.
I never said that this is bad, just that people we ignoring reality.
Early adopters of technology always have a sexual purposes in mind.
Early photographs were sold with "girlie" pictures (those little
hand-held viewers), early films were used for peep-show boxes, early
VCR buyers were often to get access to porn, etc. Trashy novels
were published shortly after movable type made it possible.
I personally think there is a lot of room for expansion of sex/sexy
services on the net. IRC/MUD and alt.sex.wizards doesn't go far
enough. I don't expect to see that on those networkMCI commericials.
