There is alot of technical talk on here about payphones, routing etc.
Seems like alot of people want their Internet and really do not care
who provides it.

I have thought for months that ANS/MCI in some form or another will
get the backbone contract. I can't prove it but, would be will to
speculate that ANS and the NSF people had many a closed door meeting
to figure out what they wanted and how to get it. I am sure that there
will be at least one major difference that sets ANS and their proposal
apart from the rest. It only stands to reason, since there has been so
much complaining about the current agreement.

I know ANS will promise IP to the Shuttle, Mir Space station and speeds
of OC-99 based on further research, contingent on a fully functional
Hubble Space telescope and available bandwidth on TDRS and then only after
IBM has fully tested the RS-9999X - Non-confirmed Spec'd re-routing-router
device on the 7th Sat. of the month. Based on a few years of payments, sure
to total more than several million dollars and that money to be compared in
inner circles as small next to a shuttle flight or some other such venture.

The bigger picture is that ANS does not give a S""" about the rest of you
now, so how do you think you will be treated when they are given the new
deal.

If I were ANS I would up the travel budget, have another expensive lunch
and increase my pay - all at tax payer expense. And by gosh I would hire
that man at NSF who made them what they are today.
