INTERNET ACCESS IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS

WASHINGTON DC - In support of the efforts of ACCESS MEDIA and
their presentation on the National Information Infrastructure,
connectivity to the Global Internet was urgently needed. A team
of vendors worked together and establish leased line connectivity
into the Global Internet in less than 24 hours.
The team consisted of Digital Express Group, Bell Atlantic, and
Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), supported by equipment vendor
Kandl Data. Digital Express provided the Internet access, routing,
and installation expertise. Bell Atlantic provided the 56 kbps
leased line circut from the J.W. Marriott downtown to the Digital
Express Point Of Presence. Digital Equipment Corporation provided
the Alpha workstation. Kandl Data provided all of the the network
hardware required for the installation.
Less than 24 hours from order to operational capability was unheard
of until very recently. New initiatives from Bell Atlantic, and the
rapid implementation service from Digital Express Group, have made it
possible. Bell Atlantic fiber communications directly into the Digital
Express facility made the Internet connection quick to implement.
