Sure I have seen and enjoyed the ads. Artfully done. Even
with some taste. (200 years from now, the only thing likely to be
studied from our 'culture' will be the ads, especially TV ads - they
tell 90% about who we are. And are probably the best art of this
century)
But whaddya mean, 'no content?' That assumes that 'content'
- valuable information, efficient communications, effective
management - is what the Net will be all about to America at large.
I said 15 years ago to the CEO of the Source: "You think you are
selling Information; I think your product is Electronic
Experiences." And it was. They never got it, so they are history.
It wasn't too long ago the telcos, having tapped out the
practical uses of telephones, came up with "Reach out and touch
somebody' - which sold a few billion more long distance calls.
Somebody at MCI understands the American public better than
that spoil-sport Pete Cottrell here, who thinks that this stuff is
Really Important. Cost? Privacy? Equity? Ha. Its just going to be
another Trip. There will be lots of Sunday drivers on the Information
Highway.
I think TCP/IP just added another layer to Maslow's stack of
needs. And MCI is telling everyone what they need. Smart business
but also clever insight into America
