When are we going to grow up? THE POLICY is flawed. Again, if the wonderous
Goverenment pundants would like to build their wonderful "R AND E" network
and leave out everything else, fine. I would be willing to bet that if
"strictly" enforced, the policy would lead to a network traffic level
about 1/10 of what we have now.
Maybe we all should start lobbying our elected officials to NOT support the
gigabit network and instead start relaxing the bizzare and unenforcable
NSFnet policies. I thought the purpose of the NETWORK was to encourage
productivity and cross-polination between Universities and business, not
Bureaucratic Bickering Between Bimbos ( BBBB ).
I can see this policy leading to a wonderful gigabit network upon which
NOTHING travels. Sounds great from a Government point of view, but what
does that do for our competitiveness and productivity?
I guess the Japanese and Europeans will figgure this out and we will be
able to purchase network connectivity from them ( with no restrictions
on content ). My feeling is that the Regionals will finally figgure out
what the problem is and connect between themselves, leaving the NSFnet
running a gigabit network with no traffic.
