What is the relevance of how long I've been on the net, aside from an
opening for a patronizing comment? I am a user and future customer of
.com; not a potential competitor, a potential customer, Wiz, so I really
appreciate and take note of courteous members of this group who dont
equate ignorance of net nuance with ignorance of other kinds or with flat
out stupidity.
More to your point: I've been lurking on compriv because frequently
enough I can detect useful or interesting info (to me) through the alphabet
soup you all
use as a language. Since the net is a hobby, I havent time to read all
the net lit I should (and would like to). Sometimes very interesting
discussions come up that I can actually follow, such as advertising on
the net and the whole thing with CIX that recently came up. Most future
customers have no idea what is going on behind the scenes, but I like to
listen in. If the discussion is beyond net tech and individual com
issues, ie into social and political issues, I guess I have as much right
to participate as anyone else.
If you want actual credentials, I skim along gopher, WWW, with Mosaic
(when I
can borrow the necessary hardsware, Usenet, and participate in several
mailing lists on a wide variety of topics. I see the net as a tool, but I
do like to watch how it works sometimes (so I'm on some techie lists,
too). I also have a real job that provides access to the net, but doesnt
use it except for lit searching.

That's funny you should use acronyms I've never noticed on this list
before - I expect that on general mailings, but since you are writing to
me and since you assume I'm ignorant, isnt it less than polite to be
intentionally obtuse?
YOur statement anyway is contradictory to the many mailings stating
how you cant restrict
who gets on. So how do YOU propose to limit it to kids? I guess if you
could do that, you could limit lists to adults. Hey, wait a minute -
all the other comprivvers addressing this issue say that cant be done,
technically.

You havent been reading my questions very carefully, Wiz. I've been
merely inquiring if certain things can be done given existing technology
and how these things might be done. EXCUSE ME for asking a relevant
question without knowing the answer ahead of time. EXCUSE me for trying
to join a useful and interesting discussion.
