Well Carl I agree that a self supporting company ought to be able to pay its
employees what they are worth as you put it.  But I don't believe ANS matches this profile.

For the same period of time that is coverfed by the 990 they spent over 11 million on the backbone.  They received almost 11 million from the national science
foundation (IE from the US taxpayer) to do this.  Their network income was I
believe less than $200,000 from source apart from the US government.  Their
profit making subsidiary CO+RE LOST $3,849,701.00.  So I really doubt that
they fit the profile of the company that you described.
