Robert E. Seastrom commented that the NSR info might be obtained via NNTP
from PSI.NWG or SURA.NOC.STATUS. I agree Robert it can be had very simply.
Gordon Cook is NOT an Internet/Telecom techie. His request to be placed on
the ANS list were met with comments that sounded like they came right out
of the 1950's cold war mentality.
I was going to head the subject line: Silence is Golden but, changed my mind.
Why is it that ANS is so concerned that the public at large read the NSR
reports anyway ? So waht if the backbone took a dump this last weekend?
So what if the upgrades fail to work when they are actually put into place.
So what if we the taxpayers support a TESTBED - just to keep that sort of thing
from happening. As long as the few support the few, the many will have to live
with it or build an alternative source of supply.
Gordon Cook mentions that ANS will (Correction ANS/Merit) would need extra
money for a shutdown if that was necessary. Man that is having your cake
and eating it too. Now we give Golden parachutes to backbone/University
services as well. There just ain't no downside here folks.
And last I take exception to the earlier remark that ANS is a company that
has not grown up and decided what it wants to do in life. They certainly
have decided - Its to suck as many millions of dollars out of the NSF as
they can, turn them into high dollars paychecks and travel expenses while
trying to look busy. The cooperative agreement as I read it Mr. Cook is
a LEGAL license to STEAL. Forget the technical problems with the net, forget
the less than T-3 speeds that were promised. Get political, bitch , moan &
write your congress people, call the media and make it the politically correct
thing to do. A fairly priced national backbone, with a contractor who is at
least held to a type of accountability and not one who is allowed to run
around the country/world and operate under total anonymity.
