Ross,

Suzie Consumer may be not what your american legislators are hoping for,
but the notion of the average person (or perhaps _interested_ avreage
person) being able to provide as well as consume is a hopeful one, in my
mind.

Asymetric may be the 'foot in the door' technique that proves there is a
market (and a cheap way to back out if there isn't) for uplinking as well
as downlinking. I have an http server on my mac. It isn't much to look at
but it is a satisfying thought, serving up some content to those who want
it.

More down to earth (who, afterall, cares about my research project on the
internet), my father - now retired - made educational films all his life.
He would love to continue doing so but the distribution and market for such
things is small. If the distribution and market was on the 'net, then why
not pay $.25 for fifteen minutes of rural african development, or the
beaches of Spain, or Canadian snow storms....

...r
