I don't know if testament is necessary, but I certainly remember
Dennis Perry buttonholing me at a conference around 1985-6 (I could
probably come up with the exact week) and picking my brains for what
kinds of things might be done with gigabit networking if we had it
today. I remember being mildly stunned at the proposition at the time
(given how serious he seemed), kind of Buck Rogers, but I'd done a
little thinking about it in the abstract before and came up with my
list of possibilities. I even remember some of the list (it all seems
too obvious at this late date, tho some things I guess require more
than Gb networking like distributed virtual memory.)
