Cyberspace Development is a new company providing consulting and
software development services to businesses interested in selling
products or services via the Internet. Our customers are businesses
that need systems to enable: online ordering and delivery of
electronic products (including publications), online ordering of
physical products, support for online product catalogs, or custom
online services (e.g., an online automated help desk for Product-X).
We create 'storefronts' via custom graphical interfaces, telnet,
gopher, WAIS, WWW/Mosaic, or e-mail. The system may include
online credit card transactions and may be hosted on your hardware
or ours. Our services include requirements analysis, prototyping,
build vs. buy evaluations, software design & development, and
system operation. We also work with businesses to take advantage of
other technologies including graphical bulletin board systems (BBS).

* Why should businesses sell goods and services via the Internet?
When businesses create storefronts on the major online services
like CompuServe and America Online, they are only accessible by
customers on those services. When businesses create storefronts on
the Internet, they are accessible by customers on the Internet *and*
customers of the major online services that offer Internet access.
A storefront on the Internet is a much better investment. There are
10 times more people on the Internet than are on even the largest of
the online services. The growth rate of the Internet is also at least
as great as that of the fastest growing online service.
Businesses can gain a strategic advantage by establishing a
commercial presence on the Internet before major cable companies
offer high bandwidth Internet connections to business and
residential customers. You can create a market niche via the Internet
before your competitors realize there is a market!
* Experience & Expertise
The folks at Cyberspace Development have been on the Net since
1980. We have experience in commercial software development for
Macintosh, Windows, and UNIX; client/server architecture, database
integration, object-oriented programming, artificial intelligence,
advanced information systems, and graphical user interfaces.
Our clients include Apple Computer, US West, InfoNow, and Raynet.
Our background also includes work at corporate research labs such as
Texas Instruments and Martin Marietta.
* The philosophy of Cyberspace Development
The old Net Wisdom was that 'Information wants to be free'.
We offer an alternative view: that information wants to be freely
accessible and affordable but not monetarily free. People must have
an incentive to spend the time and energy required to create and
gather useful information and to make that information available.
How many people would be able to make a career of writing if they
were never paid?
We are committed to helping create an easily-accessible,
decentralized, competitive, commercial Internet 'ecosystem'.
We will only post announcements about our company and activities
that are informative and of interest to the Net Community.
We believe all Internet services should adhere to net etiquette.
We will not create systems that produce 'junk e-mail'.
We believe there should be no intrusive ads (unlike Prodigy) and that
all transactions should be kept private and not sold to third parties.
In addition to our commercial activities we plan to contribute to the
quality of the Net's culture by adding free information.
We are committed to improving the information environment by
increasing the amount of useful information online, making it easier
to locate this information, increasing the number of people that can
make a living as 'knowledge workers', and making the Internet easy
to use by normal humans.
