RE the PTO and processing of patent claims for software, I wonder if one
of the problems is that a lot of the so-called prior art is not available
readily in published papers, partly because of the type of people who made
these advances and the fast pace of change. Most software developers have
a hard enought time writing documenation, let alone writing professional
articles that would show up in the search of literature.
