If they are willing to take advantage of these needs and
opportunities.

I have worked closely with librarians - and while there are many of
all ages who are chomping at the bit, and who want to work on the
wonderful problems of information discovery, cataloging the shifting
sands of the network, and guiding the users through a technology maze
(all in cooperation with the User Services professionals of the computer
centers and networks) - there are all too many who are mired in the
concepts and practices which remained essentially unchanged from the
great library at Alexandria until the Internet.

Even the alert and ready ones will need the encouragement and support
of the networking organizations. And we will benefit even more by
having these professionals helping our network users be productive.
So go ahead and take a librarian to lunch - nurture this symbiosis -
you'll be happy you did.
