The other day I did a sort of on-line interview with PUBLIB, a public
library librarians' mailing list. I also mentioned that trained
professionals will be sorely in demand shortly to help manage this
internet information explosion. The situation right now is merely
waiting until people notice their chins getting wet.
A good warning sign is the folks posting to various lists about how
lost they are trying to find anything in so-called information
discovery tools and crying for help. Cute hacks only go so far, this
stuff is beginning to require professional intervention by trained
information specialists. I envy many of them their future.
