I am appalled that SPA is using this list from a government site in
order to evade paying for direct-mail, network connections, and other
commercially available means of getting their advertisement out! Does
SPA not think that commercial concerns deserve to get paid for their
work and not to be usurped by their abusing tax-funded facilities such
as LLNL to distribute their advertisements?

Note: SPA is an industry association whose mission is to pursue and
prosecute software copyright violations. They are probably best know
for their obtaining of warrants and raiding companies without warning
or attempt to resolve a matter prior to these raids and extracting
large settlements from these targets. That's all well within the law,
the companies targetted are almost certainly in violation of both the
letter and spirit of the copyright laws, and is their right.

But then why do they do something like this and use a government
funded, high-security research site to further their own pecuniary and
very specific advocacy objectives? How is SPA's mission coincident
with that of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's?

Their entire mission revolves around enforcing strict and penurious
interpretations of their clients' commercial proprietary claims. Using
govt research laboratory facilities to further these objectives seems
very improper to me. Why don't they buy themselves a network
connection if they need access to the net, and perhaps pay closer
attention to the rules governing the use of these networks and other
tax-funded facilities?
