We are belonging to CISI ( a french computer services
company owned by the CEA (the french atomic research
agency). We are doing a survey for FRANCE TELECOM. I am
forwarding to you the official text introducing our study :

------------------------------------------------------------
"FRANCE TELECOM is organising a nationwide study on the
medium- and short term evolution of high-speed networks, in
conjonction with CISI, an international computer services
company.
As part of this study, we are investigating multi-user
scientific applications which use large computing and/or
large storage capacity. This kind of application should
justify and take benefit of high speed networks.
The following three fields have already been studied within
French public and private research organisations :

- Computational Fluid Dynamics,
- Satellite Imaging,
- Medical imaging and bio-medical research.

We would like to compare the results of this study with
state-of-the-art technology existing in the same sector in
the USA and European countries.

We are particularly interested in :

- current applications in these fields,
- the way in which above applications use processing,
storage and transmission technologies,
- services available for the users,
- forecast developments of these applications,
- how they are financed.

We would appreciate any assistance you could give our
researchers in their efforts."
-----------------------------------------------------------

We intend to go to Washington and San Francisco during the last week of
June.
Our purpose is :

1- to meet researchers of the 3 application domains :

- Computational Fluid Dynamics,
- Satellite Imaging or remote sensing,
- Medical imaging and bio-medical research.

2 - To identify services to be added to high speed networks
(Electronic mail, database access, access control and
authentication, scientific reference services, and so on),
we would like to find and to meet people responsible for the
design , planning and installation of such services.
We hope that you can help us to contact such persons, particularly
in the second domain in order to meet them in the States.

Thanks for all in advance.
