Yes, a VAX is costly.  On the other hand I see it as a throwaway
machine.  I feel comfortable installing and maintaining it myself, at
least for a while.  I want it to run long enough to see the project
through the initial phase, after which I will have either generated
enough interest to keep the project alive (and perhaps be able to get
some money budgeted) or it will die and go away.
