The cable TV services here in the Bay area are getting ready to offer
a 10Mbps digital service to the home. They use a slow reverse channel
(9600 bps) but that is usually not a problem due to the usually
    asymetrical nature of data flow.

There is not too much that I can add other than the fact that several
silicon gulch companies including Sun, Apple, and, if memory serves me
correctly, Intel, are working with the CTV companies here to provide
this service to their employees for telecommuting. There is a live
pilot going on AND, as I recollect, they are experimenting with this
technology on a UHF TV channel too. I will try to find out more.
